Solitude of Ursula Iguaran Buendia

Ursula was never in solitude. (Maybe only a few times, but she was not outwardly a solidarity person.) From the beginning of the book Ursula has been involved in many, if not all, aspects of the life of the extended Buendia family. She was always interactive with her children and even helped with the raising and education of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always found a way to keep herself moving even when she was losing her sight and possibly sanity. One could be surprised, I know I was, by how the many solidarity around her that consumed many of the family at some point in their life.

Solitude of Amaranta Buendia
Amaranta was definitely one of the first characters to be considered in solitude. In the beginning of the story, Amaranta was like any other little Buendia who ran around with her older siblings and helped her mother around the house. She, however, was not the same after a young man's attempt at her affection: Pietro Crespi. He was infatuated with her sister, Rebecca, but when Rebecca followed her feelings and ran away with her "brother" (Jose Arcadio), he switched his aim towards Amaranta. She wanted him for the longest time, until he wanted her. She would refute his efforts to woo her and turned him down when he attempted to shower her with gifts. She ended up driving him insane which lead to his eventual suicide. From this day on, Amaranta would move with zombie-like motions, moving from space to space but hardly aware of her surroundings.

Solitude of Ursula Amaranta
Ursula Amaranta was not one who would be considered in solitude. She went off to study abroad during her years of growing up and returned later to Macondo with a husband, Gaston. As Gaston began to redevelop the industrial status of Macondo, Ursula Amaranta began developing a fondness for her nephew, Aureliano (son of Renata Remedios aka Meme). Their relationship began in secrecy but soon became public knowledge. It was at this point in time where Gaston was on a business trip abroad and never returned having her the news of his wife's affair. Ursula Amaranta and Aureliano were warned of the consequences of being together and what their child would turn out to be, but loved each other despite that fact. Ursula Amaranta was soon pregnant with their soon, whom they (unsurprisingly) named Aureliano and died after childbirth. The reality was though that Aureliano was born with a pig's tail and was disregarded and found soon after around a pack of ants eating away at his corpse. Ursula Amaranta never really was in solitude for she went from her husband, Gaston, to Aureliano, but I like to believe that she experienced some form of solitude when she was alone evaluating her life and what could happen if she made poor decisions.
